What a great workshop! Your workshop was the first total immersion art workshop that I had taken and I loved it! The first day of demonstrations, I thought that I had gotten my money's worth but each day kept getting better. It surprised me that we all could keep working all of those hours but it was so much fun that I didn't want to stop. Dona H (Denver, CO)
Thank you, Thank you! I just wanted to thank you again for a wonderful workshop. It was really a great time packed with lots of information and great people to share it with! Lisa O (Kansas CIty, MO)
Your workshop... will continue to be a pivotal experience for me. The proper superlatives escape me now. You have a rare gift for not only teaching, but for sharing. You hold nothing back about your art. I am in awe about the supplies, equipment, and techniques you shared with us. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!!!!! Karie G. (Leawood, KS)
Your encaustic class was excellent! I'm so glad I decided to take it. My head is still reeling with all the great ideas to try! Just need a few more things to get started at home... Barb M. (Kansas CIty, MO)
I am a mixed media artist living in Kansas City with my artist husband. I received my BA from Elms College in MA. Initially a painter, I studied metals in Phoenix, AZ and at the Penland School of Craft in NC. I have always made small sculptures from found objects, even as a child, so I have a soft spot for random objects and collecting them. When I found encaustic, it just took over the studio and I have been painting again since 2002. I still make small random sculptures but mostly I draw & paint. I love the way the wax works and the results I am able to coax from it. Since early 2009 I have been exploring the quietness of drawing.
I draw inspiration from various sources - nature and organic forms converge with concepts of community, communication and connectivity. In my work, I address these elements by a reliance on intuitive and deliberate mark making combined with additive methods of construction.
Subtle gradations of graphite and colored pencil evidence the development of form while serving as markers of time in my drawings. My paintings echo these qualities while creating subtle dialogues within the layered compositions.
Within this work, consideration is given to line and form through the use of repetition. This emphasis actuates the communal relationships hinted at by the “dialogues” within the layered compositions of my paintings and the “time markers” of my drawings.
